BELA KRAJINA MUSEUM IN METLIKA
The Bela krajina Museum, which is based in Metlika Castle, has been open since
1951. The permanent display, consisting of numerous objects, partly spatial
representations and pictorial and documentary material, presents local lifestyles
from prehistory to the mid 20th century. The permanent display is introduced
by a 15 minute film “The Images of Bela Krajina”. Metlika Castle also features
the Gangl Gallery for temporary exhibitions, which is part of Bela krajina
Museum Metlika.  |
KAMBIČ GALLERY
The Kambič Gallery in Metlika exhibits nearly 200 works by various painters donated
by the academic Professor Vinko Kambič. A part of the Gallery is also dedicated
to temporary painting exhibitions.

SLOVENE FIREBRIGADE MUSEUM OF BRANKO BOŽIČ
The Slovene Firebrigade Museum lies in Metlika’s old town core, only a stone’s
throw away from the Bela krajina Museum. It traces the history of fire fighting
in three parts, and was opened in 1969, at the centenary establishment of Slovene
voluntary fire brigades. |
REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA PUBLIC FUND FOR CULTURAL ACTIVITIES (JSKD)
The JSKD has established fifty-eight branch offices in Slovene urban centres
to stimulate equal and evenly balanced development of amateur culture throughout
the country. Bela krajina has two branch offices in Metlika and Črnomelj.
The branch offices hold more than 2.250 cultural events annually in various spheres
(music, theatre and puppet theatre, folklore, film and video, dance, painting,
literature and intermedia projects). Mostly, these are broad promotional events
or educational programmes by amateur associations and individuals on regional
and interregional levels.  |
PUBLIC LIBRARY METLIKA
The Public Library Metlika is a general library, collecting, keeping, processing
and lending library material. Its objective is to educate, inform and satisfy
the cultural needs of the community members. The library also has its units
in Radovica, Suhorje and Gradec.
